A brief history of Vernon Memorial Methodist Tamil Church, Kalyan
The Story of Vernon Memorial Methodist Church, Kalyan began over a hundred years ago. In the year 1914, when Rev. Wilson E. Bancroft was the Pastor, the official board of the Taylor Memorial Church at Byculla decided to organise a church at Kalyan, which at that time, was growing as an important junction.
By the beginning of 1917 an English Service was duly started at Kalyan and by the end of that year a Methodist Church was established. Our Vernon Memorial Methodist Tamil Church was founded on Dec 12, 1965, by Rev. Dr. Sabarenjithan and 12 other members. What began as a small and humble congregation has grown tremendously over the past 60 years into a well-organised, spiritual, and self supportive church. Today, approximately 140 Tamil families attend our church.
Our church is deeply committed to making a difference through a wide range of social and outreach initiatives. We provide financial assistance for the education of underprivileged children, offer medical aid to those in need, support widows, and contribute to missionary organisations and church construction projects. Additionally, we organise a variety of programs designed to uplift and empower blind individuals, missionaries, children, women, youth, old-age home and orphanage.
